		The University of Maryland Medical System: 25 Years and Growing The privatization of Maryland’s teaching hospital—the University of Maryland Medical System—occurred a quarter-century ago. Since that time the once debt-ridden enterprise has been transformed into a thriving nine-member hospital system serving Maryland and the world. Alumnus Profile: Kenneth W. Rictor, ’85 Reforming Healthcare—In Russial A Maryland graduate is playing a pivotal role in the healthcare debate. What’s unusual about this story is that Kenneth W. Rictor, ’85, is focusing his energy on the health system in Russia, not America. In November, he makes his fourth humanitarian mission there, but this time he also plans to work with the Russian Minister of Health to establish ethical guidelines for physicians.
