The MAA will be honoring recipients of its two annual awards as well as the golden anniversary class of 1973 during our awards luncheon and business meeting at Westminster Hall.
Karen M. Sutton, ’03, is recipient of the 2023 Honor Award & Gold Key, presented since 1948 for outstanding contributions to medicine and distinguished service to mankind. An orthopaedic surgeon at the Hospital for Special Surgery based out of Connecticut and New York, Sutton serves as chief medical officer for World Lacrosse, head physician for the U.S. Women’s Lacrosse, team physician for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, and sits on the board of directors of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons.
George Boyer, ’83, is recipient of the 2022 MAA Distinguished Service Award, presented since 1986 for outstanding contributions to the MAA and medical school. He is a Baltimore pulmonologist currently serving as chair of medicine at Mercy Medical Center. First elected to the MAA Board in 2005, Boyer rose to the presidency in 2014. He is president of the Trustees of the Endowment of the University of Maryland, an independent corporation created in 1893 responsible for investing medical school endowment. In addition, he serves as chair of the MAA Davidge Hall Restoration Committee which oversees conservation of Davidge Hall and its museum.
Members of the class of 1973, celebrating their golden anniversary, will be recognized, and the MAA will be electing five officers and three directors during this luncheon, constituting the annual business meeting of the MAA. On the ballot for election as president is Harry A. Oken, ’83.
