The MAA will be honoring recipients of its two annual awards as well as the golden anniversary Class of 1976 during our awards luncheon and business meeting at Westminster Hall.
Donna L. Parker, ’86, is recipient of the 2026 Honor Award & Gold Key, presented since 1948 for outstanding contributions to medicine and distinguished service to humankind. She is professor of medicine, senior associate dean for medical education, and chief academic officer for the medical education program at Maryland. Parker has served on Maryland’s faculty since 1992 and held several posts—including associate dean for student affairs—prior to being elevated to her current position. Accomplishments include overseeing the school’s curricular reform six years ago.
Dennis Kurgansky, ‘86, is recipient of the 2026 MAA Distinguished Service Award, presented since 1986 for outstanding contributions to the MAA and medical school. After training at Maryland in dermatology, Kurgansky opened a private practice in Bel Air, Md., which he maintained for more than three decades. During this time, he has taught students and residents as a clinical assistant professor at Maryland. He joined the MAA Board of Directors in 1997 and in 2003 was elected president. Since his term as president, he has remained on the MAA Finance Committee where he advises the president and executive director on financial matters. In addition, he is a Silver Circle member of the John Beale Davidge Alliance—the school’s society for major donors.
Members of the class of 1976, celebrating their golden anniversary, will be recognized, and the MAA will be electing five officers and three directors during this luncheon, constituting the annual business meeting of the MAA. On the ballot for election as president is Sachin Kalyani, ‘03.
